4.1
#1 of 34 in Outdoors in Tampa
In addition to hosting exotic animals from around the world, Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo claims to display more species native to Florida than anywhere else. The zoo features multiple themed sections, including Asia, Africa, and Australia. You can learn about endangered species, and explore more than 23 hectares (56 acres) of exhibits. Don't miss the on-site hospital (the only example of its kind) dedicated to helping and rehabilitating injured Florida manatees. Check before you visit for special events and chances to interact directly with animals. • We have been here before and had a really great time, but it wasn’t up to our expectations this time around. It was a Monday, cool and sunny the Orangutans where using the beach towels to cover up and...  more »
  • We looked forward to visiting this zoo. It was expensive, dreary and had very little to offer us. They have construction going on so we didn’t get to see the bears  more »
  • My favorite part, as a life long Florida resident, is the Native Florida Wildlife area. We live in a beautiful place and many never see the wild side. This one area is worth the price of the ticket.  more »

  • My family came from out of state and we decided to go to Lowery Park Zoo because I told them it was very nice! What has happened to this zoo? When I went in the past, I always had a great time, but when we went a few days ago, it seemed so old and in need of some sprucing up! Not a whole lot to see and a lot of things were closed! The tiger roller coaster wasn't operating and I was told it is now finished operating due to age. The camel rides are gone, and the horse rides were also closed! It was so boring this time and nothing really to do! We waited quite some time for the safari ride and we were on and finished in no time! Lowery Park Zoo needs to update and freshen up the place! Yawn!
  • Great zoo here in Tampa. It's not the biggest or the best in the country, but for all it's worth, it's really enjoyable for a nice family outing. If you have kids, they will love it there. They have a program called Zoo School for teaching young children about wildlife. There are about 5-6 different areas that the zoo encompasses: Florida Wildlife, Primate World, Asian Gardens, Savanna Reserve, Wallaroo Station, and the main entrance section. There is always some event going on, so checking what that may be and might peak your interest, check their website or give them a call.
  • Nice place to spend a cool afternoon. Great for kids that like animals. At the back of the park is the Safari which has elephants and zebras, among other animals. There are a few kids rides and a carousel. Parking is free but it can be hard to find close spots during events or later in the day on weekends. They host fun seasonal events for kids and adults. Outside snacks and drinks are allowed. In the kids area there is water to play in. Also in the summer there is a big fountain pad by the entrance/exit for kids to play in.
  • This is a great and fun place to visit. Lots of different animals for around the world. The manatee area is fantastic with an underwater view of these amazing creatures. My family and I always enjoying coming here as there's lots to keep children and adults occupied. The bird display show is well worth seeing.
  • Their Christmas festivities are incredible! I've never seen a zoo come so alive after dark for the holidays. This is definitely a must for families in the area. Kids will love the Santa's Village area. They hire some live entertainment (elves, Mrs. Clause, Santa, carolers, etc.) and it really adds to the atmosphere. Don't miss the beautiful lights that are on display throughout the park!
