Alaska Raptor Center, Sitka

4.8
Working to protect and rehabilitate the state's many species of predatory birds, Alaska Raptor Center is one of the most extensive organizations of its kind in the country. The facility is set on nearly 7 ha (17 acres) of forest and is home to birds of prey, some of whom will be rehabilitated and eventually released into the wild and some of whom are permanent residents due to their injuries. One of the center's crowning features is its massive flight training center, an enclosed outdoor area where recovering eagles can practice the hunting, landing, and flight skills that may have degraded during their incapacitation. Be sure to watch the birds in action from the viewing corridor. Add Alaska Raptor Center to your Sitka travel itinerary, and discover new vacation ideas by using our Sitka holiday planner.

  • It was a really cool experience to see and learn about the raptors. They also do an anual spring release of the Eagles. It was fantastic. You can tell how much love and care are taken for these wonderful birds.
  • Fantastic place to see awesome birds! We went in the winter so admission was free. We were able to made a voluntary contribution. Had a personalized tour one day and learned about many of the stories of the birds. Went there multiple days during our stay.
  • This center helps rescue and rehabilitate all types of birds, but specializes in bald eagles. They have some resident birds that couldn't survive in the wild, too. Their bald eagle flight-training center is particularly fascinating; it's where injured birds get their flight mojo back in a safe, enclosed environment. Fascinating to visit at mid-day feeding time.
  • Had a great visit. Had our 11 year old grandson with us. He could not get over of what he saw. His answer, "I loved it, one of the best places.".
  • Great non-profit dedicated to the rehabilitation of area raptors. Friendly staff, moderate fee, beautiful birds from which to learn about raptors.
