Seaside Seabird Sanctuary, Indian Shores

4.4
#154 of 714 in Wildlife in Florida
The largest wild bird hospital and sanctuary in the United States, Seaside Seabird Sanctuary rescues and rehabilitates injured wild seabirds in hopes of returning them to nature. Spend time up close with the permanently injured birds who reside at the sanctuary full time and take pictures of some of the 600 wild birds that come through. Make sure to bring sunscreen and water, as the sanctuary is mostly outdoors. Be aware that like any place heavily populated by birds, there can be a strong smell. Put Seaside Seabird Sanctuary on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Indian Shores vacation builder.

Small sanctuary for injured beach birds, it a small attraction where your donations go a loooong way! On Indian rocks beach, adds to something else to do while soaking the sun! Check them out!  more »

I stumbled upon this place and being into dog rescue, I went on in and saw the numerous birds who were rescued or in rehab. Very nice people helping wounded birds. What's not to like?  more »

On gulf Boulevard in St. Petersburg, by the sea, Center home for injured birds. Access and free parking, a small donation is welcome to support the activity. A little tour in 10 to 15 minutes. With all kinds of local birds. There are even birds in freedom in the Center, with nests in the trees. A small break.

Brought a injured hawk yesterday and everyone was great. It felt great knowing he was in such a great place! No change and they just had donation boxes available. I highly recommend families stop in and get a close up look at our local birds. Places like this are vital! Highly recommend! Stop by make a donation if you can, it's a wonderful place and you'll leave happy knowing places like this exist, and working so hard to preserve the health of our local birds.

This is a neat place for locals and visitors alike. Kids love it here too. Best of all, FREE! (Donations keep it running but no one hassles you for it.) It is a little stinky, because that what birds are... stinky... but it is kept impeccably clean. I was amazed. The water pools are super clean and it is kept up nice. Lots of neat birds to see. Some in cages, some free roam. Lots on the trees too. Bring a camera. Parking is a little tight and it is easy to pass the parking lot entrance from Gulf Boulevard, but you can do a U-turn and come back if you missed it.

I've taken 3 injured seabirds here, they saved one and I was told it was released. 2 were put to sleep due to traumatic injuries. They will try to help any seabird and have quite a few on site being rehabilitated or kept due to injuries. The birds are well treated and fed, it's free to walk around and look but I encourage you to leave a donation to help this place and the great people that strive to save native seabirds.

Loved the place.. it's free to walk through. Please donate though.. Remember this is basically the only place for 20miles in each direction for birds to have a safe haven.

Absolutely amazing. The greatest place to go in Florida if you like birds. Spoke to the staff at length about the work they do and was impressed from beginning to end. Recommending this to anyone who travels in the Tampa Bay area, or even in Florida.
