  • Its about an hour south of Anchorage, but worth the trip due to the drive along the scenic highway. The road in is dirt and gets a bit hairy/muddy in the off season when I was visiting, but passable. ...  more »
  • I normally don't like zoos or enclosures but this is definitely a good place to see Alaska wildlife and learn more about their uniqueness. The enclosures are large and allow the animals to roam around...  more »

  • The drive out there is beautiful and along the water. Once you get there, there is not much to it. You drive up to a tiny shack where a man takes your tickets and you then drive around a path where you can see the animals from your car. There are restrooms in the gift shop which is a very nice shop. (also has snacks, candy, drinks). That is also where the eagle and owl are inside outdoor pens. We got out of our car to go into the barn where the moose and foxes were. We also got out to see the wolves better.
  • I really wasn't sure if I was going to like this place but it was really fun. It is nice they way they have it set up and if you are in the area with no other plans you should definitely come visit. You get to see a lot of wildlife up close...but not too close. Especially if you've come to Alaska and not seen that much wildlife this is such a great place to do it. The staff is very nice and the area is very clean. It does cost money to get in but if you are up to it, it is absolutely worth it.
  • This was our last full day in Alaska and the Anchorage area. We decided to take a break from the roads and visit the conservation center, which was also recommended by several local friends. This is hibernation season and we didn't know what to expect but were extremely satisfied with what the enter had to offer. There are unique views this time of year in and around the center. The snow added natural authenticity one would expect from Alaska this time of year. We were lucky enough to be present for the show at the wolf display. Howling like I've never seen or heard before. It's a must visit any time of year to first time visitors and veterans alike.
  • Really happy this places exists. It was a lot of fun seeing all the animals. I do wish they made more areas accessible ie the wolf enclosure has a road that goes along it, and they close it off even though it's safe spot to observe from. Otherwise a great place to visit.
  • We went during the middle of February 2018. There weren't many other people there which was nice. But all the animals came out to see us. If the wolves were dogs, we could have pet them. And 3 grizzlies even came out; one came just a couple yards from the fence. Was an amazing experience to see all the animals...moose, wolves, porcupine, caribou, reindeer, musk ox, grizzlies, black bear cub (was the only one hiding from us), not sure if I forgot others. The staff were all real friendly and helpful too.
