The National Key Deer Refuge is a 8542acre National Wildlife Refuge located on Big Pine Key and No Name Key in the Florida Keys in Monroe County, Florida.The refuge is home to the endangered Key Deer, a subspecies of the White-tailed deer that is endemic to the Florida Keys and has a current population of around 800 animals. 21 other threatened and endangered species of plants and animals are also found on the refuge, which includes 2400acre of upland forests, 5100acre of wetlands, and 1050acre of marsh. 2278acre of the refuge have been designated as a wilderness area.Crocodile Lake National Wildlife Refuge, Great White Heron NWR, and Key West NWR are administered by the National Key Deer Refuge.

    A must top place while in the Keys; the Key deer are easy to spot since they graze so close to the road and are not afraid of humans. Also, stop at the visitor center in Marathon and get the full info...  more »

    In connection with the blue hole (is a park) I'm visitors center you will be notified accordingly – and for us the Park was one of the highlights of the Florida safe trips

    This location is actually the administration office. Search for the visitors center or the Blue Hole if you are looking for some place to start. The actual Key Deer Refuge was cool though!

    Took us FOREVER to find the Visitor Center- yes, it is in the strip mall. The volunteer behind the counter was very nice but the signage at the trailheads she suggested were not easy to find. We did find the Blue Hole and we're lucky enough to see two alligators. L

    Key deer are a must see when in the Keys. Very unique to the area.
