Yellow Rose of Texas

Known as "The Yellow Rose of Texas," Amarillo was once a series of ranches. It is a true western town, with a series of canyons to the south and large expanses of open land. Events in town celebrate the life and legend of the cowboy, such as the Tri-State Fair & Rodeo, in operation since 1921, which brings cowboys from all over the United States. Keep your eyes peeled for local millionaire Stanley Marsh III's sponsored art projects throughout the city. One features Cadillacs half buried in the ground and painted, and the other showcases a series of road signs with ironic, satirical, or incongruous images and words.
