Salts Mill, Shipley

4.4
Once the largest industrial building in the world by total floor area, Salts Mill contains a large collection of works by artist David Hockney and a number of independent shops and restaurants. This former mill was built in 1853 by Titus Salt, a local manufacturer and politician. The historic mill also includes an exhibition narrating the fascinating history of Saltaire, a World Heritage Site that once served as home to hundreds of Salt’s workers. Take a little time to explore the many shops inside the old building, which sell everything from bicycles to antiques. You can also walk or cycle on the canal path, which passes by the mill and is part of the national cycle network. Put Salts Mill at the forefront of your travel plans using our Bradford trip planner.

  • Just such a lovely place. Accessible (although signage to find the car park could be improved), we have to take a mobility scooter with us so great for that. Restaurant was just perfect. It's a big loud place with excellent food
  • In a word...Fabulously supreme stationery everything you could possibly desire in the area of art, home, and outdoor gear and a lot more. I was enthralled and in no time quite overwhelmed by the onslaught of CHOICE and although I could not take in any more delights l still wanted to turn more pages of books, posters, photo cards and the best gift wrap I had to tear myself away to eat a morsel in the profession kitchen. Roll on Christmas I'm expecting a real treat as this is already a gift finders paradise.
