The Guildhall Library is a public reference library specialising in subjects relevant to London. It is administered by the Corporation of London, the government of the City of London, which is the historical heart of London, England.

The library was founded in the 1420s under the terms of the will of Lord Mayor Dick Whittington. Many volumes in store rooms were lost due to bombing in World War Two. The library was originally housed in the Old Library at the Guildhall, and moved to modern premises elsewhere in the Guildhall complex in the 1970s.

  • As others have mentioned, this library has a vast collection of books and written material specifically about London. It's more of a reference library than a general library, so useful for anyone...  more »

  • Some staff there are rude. The computers are extremely slow and definitely outdated, which ruined my harddisk. The area with the computers stinks..... Cannot imagine a library with such bad condition. Will never go again as there are much better libraries in London.
  • Visited the library today for an afternoon talk. Disappointed that the refurbished loos in the basement are now "gender neutral". Ladies DO NOT use these there is no privacy and the area outside the cubicles is very small (NO ROOM TO SWING A CAT) so you are likely to literally bump into complete strangers of the opposite sex. My advice is go to the WC before attending the library.
