Trip Planner:   Europe  /  UK  /  England  /  London  /  Guildhall

Guildhall is a municipal building in the Moorgate area of the City of London, England. It is situated off Gresham and Basinghall streets, in the wards of Bassishaw and Cheap. The building has been used as a town hall for several hundred years, and is still the ceremonial and administrative centre of the City of London and its Corporation. It should not be confused with London's City Hall, the administrative centre for Greater London. The term "Guildhall" refers both to the whole building and to its main room, which is a medieval great hall. The nearest London Underground stations are Bank, St Paul's and Moorgate. It is a Grade I-listed building.

  • We discovered this almost by accident, but very glad that we did. There are the remains of a Roman Amphitheatre in the basement - fascinating - and a really interesting Victorian art collection...  more »
  • It’s a pretty building, but much like others from the same time period. I’m not even certain if one can go inside it, but the door was locked and we didn’t go into the attached museum.  more »

  • I've been there last autumn and really enjoyed the guided tour of the Guildhall Art Gallery and the stunning interiors of the Guildhouse itself, including the stained windows in the basement. The buildings are all very accessible with elevators/step-free access throughout.
  • We were lucky enough to get inside the Guildhall, fantastic history. Also saw the Roman amphitheatre downstairs, worth a visit.
