Florence Nightingale Museum commemorates the "Lady of the Lamp," credited with founding modern nursing in the United Kingdom. Located on the site where she established her nursing school in 1860, the museum includes three major exhibits: Nightingale's childhood and struggle against social conventions, the nurse's dramatic service in the military, and her steadfast campaigning for health reform. Keep your eyes peeled for special artifacts like Nightingale's childhood writing slate, her medicine chest, a register of nurses that served under Nightingale, and even her pet owl named Athena that she rescued and carried in her pocket. • Interesting museum to visit if you are looking for something different to do in London. You will find out about the lady with the lamp and how she helped the sick and wounded. The exhibition is well laid out and informative. I enjoyed my visit, I went to investigate for my blog and would recommend this to anyone interested in nursing and important historical women.
  • I love that she still followed her calling to become a nurse. I also loved learning that she found this calling while caring for her family members in the home, and that she found her true passion for nursing. The museum also includes her nursing uniform, old medicine chest with vials of medicine in it, and tons of pictures of her life.
