Acton Burnell Castle, Acton Burnell

Acton Burnell Castle is a 13th-century fortified manor house, located near the village of Acton Burnell, Shropshire, England (grid reference SJ534019). It is believed that the first Parliament of England at which the Commons were fully represented was held here in 1283. Today all that remains is the outer shell of the manor house and the gable ends of the barn. It is a Grade I listed building of the Statutory List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.

  • Easy to get to, free to go and a lovely area. No toilet facilities. Kids played around the castle and learnt some stuff from the information boards. Then we went into the deer park and saw some...  more »
  • Great to walk around this old building. However nothing else available here. But an Interesting place to visit for a couple of hours.  more »

  • Myself and my daughter went to Wroxeter Roman Ruins before we decided to come here. It was a little hard to find, but when you know where you are going it's a beautiful find. Walking through the gate and then through the woods to then see the castle. We spent around 30 minutes here, looked around, listen to the birds and just chilled. It was a lovely find. It has a nice peaceful atmosphere to it.
