Founded in 1535 by Spanish explorer Francisco Pizarro, Lima represents an interesting blend of modern attractions and preserved colonial architecture, much of it clustered in the World Heritage-listed city center.
Start off your visit on the 8th (Sat): pause for some serene contemplation at Cathedral of Lima, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at San Pedro Church (Iglesia de San Pedro), get to know the fascinating history of Centro Historico de Lima, then get a taste of the local shopping with Shopping Center Larcomar (Centro Comercial Larcomar), and finally take a stroll through Miraflores. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: ponder the design of Plaza de Armas (Plaza Mayor), get engrossed in the history at Museo de la Nacion, and then stroll through Playa Costa Verde.

Madrid, Spain to Lima is an approximately 15.5-hour flight. You can also fly. The time zone changes from Central European Standard Time (CET) to Peru Standard Time (PET), which is usually a -6 hour difference. Traveling from Madrid in April, expect Lima to be somewhat warmer, temps between 28°C and 22°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Mon) early enough to travel to Cusco.

Fly from Lima to Cusco in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. Traveling from Lima in April, expect nights in Cusco to be much colder, around 7°C, while days are a bit cooler, around 23°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Tue) to allow time to travel to Machu Picchu.

There's lots more to do: step off the mainland to explore Taquile Island, stroll around Parque Pino, get great views at Mirador Ing. Take a bus from Puerto Maldonado to Puno in 17.5 hours. Alternatively, you can fly; or take a bus; or drive. Plan for much colder temperatures traveling from Puerto Maldonado in April, with highs in Puno at 22°C and lows at 1°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 19th (Wed) early enough to go by car to Nazca.
