Learn about the Czech Republic's culture and natural environment by exploring the scientific and historical collections of Narodni Muzeum. Josef Schultz designed this monumental Neo-Renaissance building in the 19th century as a symbol of the Czech National Revival. The grand entrance hall features a wide staircase, intricate stonework, and ceiling frescos. The museum houses almost 14 million items relating to mineralogy, paleontology, mycology, botany, entomology, zoology, anthropology, the arts, and archeology. Look for a 12th-century silver tiara in the archeology department and a gilded silver rhyton in the prehistory area. The theater department includes costume designs, music, memorabilia, and marionettes from the Czech puppet theater. • The museum looks gorgeous from outside and stately. The view from the front entrance to the park is great. The main hall of the museum is well decorated with paintings featuring landmarks in the region and sculptures of historical figures. The tinted glass dome looks awesome. However, the exhibition was a huge disappointment as the contents were sparse. Lots of space were simply empty. Overall, it is still a place worthy a visit.
  • I can confirm the reports that the museum is mostly empty. Very few exhibitions due to ongoing renovation work. The few exhibitions that are open are hard to find, due to poor signage and no available museum maps. They are also small and of mediocre quality. The building, however, is very beautiful. But unless you are an architectural history buff, you'll feel as of you just payed 260 crowns for entrance to a museum shop...
